our language is a system with an
established inventory of elements
and rules and at the same time, while
seeming to be a contradiction, it is a
game with almost unlimited possibili-
ties: different contents, statements and
meanings can be generated with the
very same letters: suspense and
boredom, silence and noise, enthu-
siasm and listlessness, caution and
brashness, order and chaos, intelli-
gence and ignorance.
as visual composers we find our task,
our aim and our enjoyment in design-
ing a visual language which, like its
spoken or written equivalent, offers
a maximum of creative possibilities
with a minimum of elements.
a language which doesn't produce
an image but delineates a profile,
a language which doesn't display
a hasty make-up but paints a face,
a language as an invitation to dia-
logue, as a tool for communication
– design and graphics become self-
evident.
